About Us

The Cancer Pain Research Consortium
In December 2012, a group of physicians with an interest in the treatment of cancer pain, with representation from multiple specialties met in Las Vegas, Nevada under the leadership of Dr. Bill Rosenberg. The physicians in attendance identified a need for the formation of an interdisciplinary group to improve the care of patients suffering from cancer-related pain. Each specialty, from Medical and Radiation Oncology to Neurosurgery and Physiatry, have important roles in the treatment of cancer patients. The Cancer Pain Research Consortium, now a 501 (c)3 organization, was later founded to improve the management of cancer-related pain through interdisciplinary collaboration in research, best practice guidelines and patient/physician education.
Our Mission
To generate and promote interdisciplinary, patient-centered, evidence-based care for cancer-related pain and suffering.
Our Vision
- The CPRC, as a 501(c)3 organization, resolves to dedicate itself to the relief of pain and suffering related to cancer.
- We agree that pain due to cancer is an under-‐recognized, yet avoidable health problem. We further agree that lack of awareness and limited access deprive patients of optimal care, and that this may impact survival.
- Through research and expert opinion, we plan to collect, collate and interpret all data related to the relief of cancer-‐related pain, and disseminate this information as best practices.
- We pledge to develop guidelines and standards of care that are evidence-based and patient-centered for all forms of distress associated with cancer-related pain, and to change these periodically as new information, problems and therapies emerge.
- Through education and enlightenment, we hope to overcome the existing barriers to care, and to ensure access to appropriate cancer pain care regardless of financial or geographical situation.
- We hope to abolish fear of cancer-related pain for future generations, similar to the contemporary standards of care and best practices for labor pain relief and postoperative analgesia.
- As interdisciplinary professionals, we will accomplish this through our caring, commitment, inquiry, and the exchange of knowledge, for the benefit of our patients, their families, and all cancer sufferers and survivors.
